Have you ever heard or used the word “spendthrift”? It is uncommonly used by the society especially during daily conversations. This word has the ability to describe someone specifically because of its meaning. Do you know what this word means?
According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of spendthrift is:
“a person who spends too much money or who wastes money.”
The synonims of spendthrift are waster, spender, profligate, and prodigal.
This word describes someone who spends or likes to spend too much money; more money than they should spend. This first word of the week usually gives a negative connotation when used to describe someone. ❌

You may know the word “thrift shop” from the famous 2012 hip-hop song “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. You may like the song and listen to it repeatedly but do you really know what thrift shop means?
According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of thrift shop is:
“a store that sells clothes and other good given by people to raise money for a charity.”
In other words, thrift shop is a shop where people donate their used items that they don’t use anymore (e.g. old clothes and bags) to raise money for a charity of their choice. A thrift shop is built for a good cause: to help other people in need or who are less economically unfortunate. A thrift shop has charitable purposes.
So, it is important to understand everything you say, sing, read, or listen. You may sing the song “Thrift Shop” without knowing what it is about. Sure, the song isn’t necessarily about giving donations but isn’t it great if you know what thrift shop is? Now you know more about the song. In summary, the song is about spending money excessively in a thrift shop. 💸💸💸
