Word of the Week: Part 6 📖🔍

Word: Euphoria 😦💥➡😁

Have you ever heard, read, or used the word euphoria? Do you know what this word means? ❓❓❓

The word euphoria has often been used by many people because of the famous teen drama series called “Euphoria” starring Hollywood actress @zendaya! 🎥📺

So, what does this word actually mean?

Euphoria

According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of euphoria is:

“an extremely strong feeling of happiness and excitement that usually lasts only a short time.”

As stated by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the synonyms of euphoria include cloud nine, ecstasy, paradise, intoxication, heaven, and exhiliration. The antonym of euphoria is depression.

Euphoria is the experience (or affect) of pleasure or excitement and intense feelings of well-being and happiness. Certain natural rewards and social activities, such as aerobic exercise, laughter, listening to or making music, and dancing, can induce a state of euphoria. 🏃💃🎧🎶

Certain drugs, many of which are addictive, can cause euphoria, which at least partially motivates their recreational use. 💊💉

Nowadays, euphoria generally refers to happiness. It derives from the word “euphoros”, a Greek word that means “healthy”. Given that root, it’s not surprising that in its original English uses, it was a medical term originated in 1751. 📜

Modern physicians still use the term, but they aren’t likely to prescribe something that will cause it. In contemporary medicine, euphoria describes abnormal or inappropriate feelings such as those caused by an illegal drug or an illness. 🔬

Euphoria is also a symptom of certain neurological or neuropsychiatric disorders, such as mania. 🎭
