Have you ever heard, read, or used the word marvelous? Do you know what this word means? ❓❓❓

There are two ways to write this word: marvelous (US English) 🇺🇸 and marvellous (British and Canadian English) 🇬🇧🇨🇦

So, what does this word actually mean?

According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of marvelous is:

“extremely good; wonderful.”

Marvelous is the adjective form of the noun marvel, which most commonly means a thing that causes wonder. Marvelous can mean causing wonder, as well as improbable, but both of these senses are much less common than its primary meaning of “wonderful”.

Marvelous means wonderful, extraordinary, fabulous, superb, excellent. In this sense, it is often used to praise things like works of art and artistic performances.

As stated by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the synonyms of marvelous are amazing, astonishing, astounding, awesome, awful, eye-opening, fabulous, miraculous, portentous, prodigious, staggering, stunning, stupendous, sublime, surprising, wonderful, and wondrous. The antonyms of marvelous are familiar, nonexotic, nonglamorous, plain-Jane, unexotic, unglamorous, and unromantic.

If you describe someone or something as marvellous, you are emphasizing that they are very good. 👏👏👏

The definition of marvelous is a surprising, amazing or very good person, thing or event. An example of a marvelous day is a beautiful sunny day. ☀

Coping with Stress During COVID-19 😰😭😖

It has been many months since the COVID-19 pandemic changed everyone’s lives. The number of cases are still rising rapidly every day. The death rate is still increasing. These unfortunate months have caused us not only stress but also sadness, anxiety, and even depression.

How do you cope with stress during COVID-19? ❓❓❓

First of all, it’s normal to feel sad, stressed, confused, scared, or angry. Don’t be too hard on yourself. This pandemic is a new thing for all of us so it takes time to adapt to this sudden change.

Here are some things that you can do to cope with stress during COVID-19:

1. Talk to the people that you trust. Vent with them and avoid bottling up all of your feelings inside. Let those feelings out. 👤💬👤

2. Maintain a healthy lifestyle as best as you can with proper diet, adequate sleep and exercise, and social interaction with loved ones at home or online.

3. Seek professional help for physical and mental health needs instead of using smoking, alcohol, or drugs to cope. 🏥

4. Lessen the time you and your family spend watching or listening to media coverage of news that you find upsetting. ❌❌❌

Have you ever heard, read, or used the word meticulous? Do you know what this word means? ❓❓❓

The word meticulous sounds like the word ridiculous which is more commonly used in conversations. These two words are also both adjectives. Despite these similarities, these two words have completely different meanings.

So, what does this word actually mean?

According to Oxford Dictionary, the definition of meticulous is:

“paying careful attention to every detail.”

Meticulous means taking or showing extreme care about every detail; precise; thorough. If you describe someone as meticulous, you mean that they do things very carefully and with great attention to detail.

As stated by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the synonyms of meticulous are careful, conscientious, fussy, loving, painstaking, and scrupulous. The antonym of meticulous is careless.

The Latin root of meticulous is “metus”, which means “fear.” Someone who’s meticulous is afraid of what will happen if they’re not careful enough to get every detail right. “Detail-oriented” and “perfectionist” are other ways of describing someone who cares deeply about the small things and about getting things exactly right, every time. Someone who is meticulous pays extreme attention to detail. If that person is, say, your surgeon or your accountant, you’ll definitely want them to be meticulous!
